The 2013 U.S. Senior Open was the largest Senior Open in history and local charities benefited from the success. The United States Golf Association (USGA) conducted the national championship for the first time in the state of Nebraska on July 8-14 at Omaha Country Club.
“We’re very grateful to our 100 corporate supporters, the 156 players who participated in the championship, the USGA, the more than 150,000 fans who attended and the 3,000-plus volunteers who helped make it possible,” said General Chairman Patrick Duffy. “Thanks to everyone’s support, the 2013 U.S. Senior Open will contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charities.”
Recipients of these funds include the Nebraska Golf Foundation, a foundation benefitting the Omaha Country Club Caddie Program, and numerous local charities focused on youths.
The proceeds will support a spectacular program, FORE!, providing youths across the state with subsidized access to play golf and will help the Kevin O’Connor Scholarship Fund continue its mission of granting college scholarships to caddies from the Omaha Country Club.
In addition to benefitting local charities, the championship generated a significant economic impact for the region, estimated to have been in excess of $50 million, comprised of significant event expenses, and substantial business for area hotels, restaurants, shopping establishments and other entertainment venues. The event also showcased the City of Omaha to an international television audience.
