Centris and The 712 Initiative Present 50th Anniversary of Celebrate CB
Celebrate CB week, presented by Centris First Federal Credit Union (the712initiative.org), will be held May 9-15. The 712 Initiative and partners are pleased to announce this year’s 50th anniversary parade theme is “Going for the Gold”. Celebrate CB is Council Bluffs’ longest-standing community event. The parade features over 100 entries and sees about 10,000 attendees annually. This year, they will bring back the River City Carnival, which will be held in Bayliss Park Thursday–Sunday of Celebrate CB week.
In addition to the 50th anniversary, it is also an Olympic year. Three notable athletes from Council Bluffs will be recognized as Grand Marshalls for the parade: Thomas Gilman, a bronze medalist in wrestling at the 2020 Olympic games; David Kjeldgaard, a National Wrestling Hall of Famer; and Josh Turke, a four-time Paralympian in Wheelchair Basketball.
“We are thrilled to bring Celebrate CB back and to celebrate an incredible 50 years of this event while also recognizing our hometown world athletes,” stated Sheryl Garst, CEO of The 712 Initiative. “Council Bluffs Community Schools created this celebration to instill community pride with the school children. 2022 is a year to celebrate on how far we have come as a community, honoring our past and celebrating each other and this wonderful community we call home.”
The 2022 lineup include a Mayors Proclamation on May 9; Clean Sweep, a community-wide spring cleaning, on May 10; a Scavenger Hunt throughout the week; Farmer’s Market on May 12; a Carnival May 12-15 located north part of Bayliss Park; Agriculture Cookout on May 13, and the Celebrate CB Parade on May 14.
