Celebrate National Reading Month with Book Drives for FAMILY, Inc.’s Raise Me to Read

To celebrate National Reading Month in March, Southwest Iowa Raise Me to Read, a service from FAMILY, Inc. (www.familyia.org), is asking for businesses, organizations, and community groups to hold a book drive to help support early childhood literacy. According to recent findings published in the Social Science Research journal, children who are raised surrounded by books have shown significant increased academic growth and likelihood of future career success. In fact, according to the Pacific Standard, “Regardless of how many books the family already has, each addition to the home library helps children do better.”

Southwest Iowa Raise Me to Read is a local community initiative that works as part of the FAMILY, Inc. wealth of services to provide early childhood literacy supports for families in Pottawattamie County. By organizing a book drive you will help them continue to get books into the hands of thousands of children in Southwest Iowa. Raise Me to Read accepts all new and gently used children’s books, focusing on items for children ages 0-5. If interested in helping to support children’s literacy by holding a book drive, please contact FAMILY, Inc. Director of Literacy Initiatives Samantha Emerine at semerine@familyia.org.
