On Tuesday, August 29, United Way of the Midlands (UWM, UnitedWayMidlands.org) kicked off their annual fundraising campaign with an event, hosted by Physicians Mutual, at Creighton University’s Harper Center. Local business leaders, funded agencies, community members and many others gathered to share how metro-area residents can work together and help our neighbors in need.
The program featured a special 100-year campaign video – along with a Community Impact Panel Discussion, moderated by KETV’s Jack Keenan – during which four individuals discussed the challenges they have faced or are still facing, and the help they have received from some of UWM’s funded agencies.
UWM’s 2023 Campaign Chair Rob Reed (pictured right), president and CEO, Physicians Mutual, accompanied by his wife, Stacie Reed, also delivered remarks – along with Shawna Forsberg, UWM president and CEO (pictured left) and Brian Woolfolk, UWM board chair. Also in attendance were UWM Board members Bob Gunia, SVP – Public Affairs, Physicians Mutual (pictured second from left) and Gladys Harrison, president, Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering (pictured second from right).
For 100 years, United Way of the Midlands has served the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro by bringing together the business and not-for-profit sectors to create a Circle of Support that helps our neighbors overcome difficult challenges and start building a better future. UWM’s funded programs and direct services address social and economic disparities and meet families’ essential needs such as healthy food, safe and stable housing, physical and mental health services, career preparation and job training.
