As America transitions from remote work to a hybrid era, Yardi Cube (www.yardikube.com) did a study to give commuters a heads-up that Omaha records the 3rd best commute time in the nation. Commuting patterns have changed a lot since the pandemic and many jobs have been moved to remote or hybrid positions.

Here are the key stats behind Omaha’s commute time evolution since 2019:

  • Omaha’s average one-way commute time of only 20 minutes ranks 3rd in the nation, the city defending its podium position from 2022
  • Although Omaha records the 3rd fastest commute duration, it saw an increase of 1.1 minutes in travel time compared to 2022 (9th largest), which equals to 9.2 more hours spent in traffic per year
  • Omaha deserves praise for keeping one of the top commute times since it hosts the 9th lowest number of remote workers (32,317), a pool that also saw the 12th largest decrease compared to 2022 (-15%) following the shift to hybrid work.

Nationally, the worst commutes were led by New York City, NY, where the average travel time is 40.1 minutes, followed by Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA. In contrast, commuters in Tulsa, OK, spend the least amount of time on the road: 19.1 minutes.
