Get Started Omaha Event Showcases Entrepreneurs

It was “Shark Tank” Omaha-style when Cox Business (www.cox.com) and Inc. Magazine joined together to host Get Started Omaha 2016, a pitch competition and networking event for entrepreneurs and start-up companies. This third annual event, part of this year’s Omaha Start-Up Week, was held at the Holland Center on March 24.

Nearly 40 businesses applied for the opportunity to pitch their new business ideas to a panel of judges for the chance to win a prize package valued at nearly $10,000 in cash and Cox Business Services, in addition to the opportunity to be featured in an upcoming online article in Inc. Magazine.

Five companies were selected as finalists, ranging from a new social media platform designed to better restaurant experiences to a disposable dog bath. A representative from each company was given 2.5 minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of accomplished leaders in marketing, funding and business growth strategies.

Krystal Stubbendeck and her company, Borrow for your Bump, was named the winner. Borrow for your Bump is an e-commerce retailer that allows mothers to borrow maternity and nursing wardrobes.

“Get Started Omaha is a way for Cox Business (www.cox.com) and our partners to help promote innovative talent in our local business community,” said Vice President, Lynne Sangimino. “We want to help propel these entrepreneurs into funding and connections to get them to the next phase of their business.”
