Four Citizens’ Climate Chapters Endorse Bill to Reduce Carbon Emissions
On December 20, four Citizens’ Climate Lobby Chapters (citizensclimatelobby.org) in Nebraska endorsed a bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. Senate that would reduce America’s carbon emissions, improve health and save lives, and create 2.1 million jobs over the next decade.
The four chapters and their respective volunteer leaders include: Bellevue – Frances Moore, (402) 415-7705 / frances.moorene@gmail.com; Chadron – Steve Welch, (308) 430-2837, and Cheryl Welch, (308) 432-3519, both at loswelchitos@gmail.com; Lincoln – Moni Usasz, (402) 202-3100 / musasz@neb.rr.com; and Omaha – Kay Carne, (917) 655-3361 / catharinegustafson@gmail.com and Mark Welsch, (402) 510-7565 / MarkWelschCCL@gmail.com.
The legislation—the bipartisan Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (S.3791)—is sponsored by Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Sen. Andrew Coons (D-DE). It is the Senate version of a similar bill introduced by a bipartisan group of House lawmakers several weeks ago. (That introduction was covered by The Hill, the Washington Examiner, NPR and more.) Senator Coons says he intends to reintroduce the bill in the 116th Congress.
The leaders of all four of Citizens’ Climate Lobby Nebraska Chapters all agree, “We’re thrilled that bipartisan legislation to price carbon has now been introduced in the both the House and the Senate. We hope Senators Deb Fischer and Ben Sasse will consider co-sponsoring this bill when it’s re-introduced in the next Congress.”
