The Empowerment Network (empoweromaha.com) has announced its ambitious “Transformation 2030” initiative—a community-wide plan to foster economic growth, educational opportunity, and safety throughout Omaha.
Originally launched as Transformation 2025, the initiative has been updated for 2030 to complete the journey from recovery to economic revitalization. With measurable progress already achieved in multiple areas before the pandemic, Transformation 2030 aims to finish the job with ambitious goals across education, employment, housing, health, and community development.
Since its founding in 2007, Empowerment Network and its partners have been one of the primary catalysts for over $1 billion in reinvestment into historically underserved areas. They’ve also seen measurable gains in African American high school graduation rates, homeownership, and job creation. With Transformation 2030, the goal is to expand these outcomes by increasing household income, boosting business and homeownership, and improving health outcomes.
Rooted in a data-informed and community-driven approach, Transformation 2030 includes a continued focus on six core areas: education, employment, entrepreneurship, housing, violence prevention, and health. Specific goals include:
- Creating 1,000 new jobs
- Adding 3,000 to 5,000 new housing units
- Supporting the development of 250 additional businesses with employees
As an organization dedicated to building safe and thriving communities, Empowerment Network is also supported in part by the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, a program of The Obama Foundation.
While Empowerment Network prepares to implement Transformation 2030, it invites all sectors of Omaha to join in this next chapter of inclusive growth, equity, and opportunity.
