Kelly Billings, DPT and Michelle Cochran, OTD, OTR/L, pediatric therapists at Children’s Respite Care Center (crcctherapy.org), have earned their NDT Certification as part of the 10-month program from the Neuro-Development Treatment Association (NDTA).  They are two of a few NDT Certified therapists in Nebraska and Western IA, and two of the only also specializing in pediatrics.

NDT is a specialized therapeutic technique that is particularly effective in the management and treatment of individuals with central nervous system pathology, such as Cerebral Palsy, Shaken Baby or Seizure Disorder.  It can also be used with children with low muscle tone such as Down syndrome.

The goal of this approach is to maximize function, minimize impairment, and prevent further disabilities while enhancing quality of life.

When asked in what ways using this treatment approach would benefit CRCC’s clients and their families Michelle expressed that being able to apply NDT concepts as part of therapy treatment plans allows them to facilitate proper alignment and movement both in and away from the core, facilitate functional skill development and movement patterns that the child can generalize to all areas of life.  These techniques also address motor learning and changes in the brain that are long-lasting not just a temporary “fix.” Most importantly they “provide parents with more confidence in my ability to help their children. It allows me to provide quality services that parents can feel best serve their children.”

The clinic serves families within and outside of the Omaha area and we accept most major insurances, including Medicaid and have self-pay options.
