The Omaha Film Festival (omahafilmfestival.org) returns for its 20th year, celebrating two decades of cinematic excellence with an electrifying lineup of films, filmmaker Q&A and special events. From March 11-16, 2025, Aksarben Cinema hosted 96 films, featuring captivating narrative features, thought-provoking documentaries, and diverse short films that will leave audiences inspired and engaged.
Filmmakers from all around the world were in attendance, participating in post-screening Q&A panels, offering behind-the-scenes insights and connecting directly with audiences. Each night, attendees continued the celebration at lively after-parties, making the festival an incredible gathering for film lovers and industry professionals alike.
The festival opened with the highly anticipated thriller “Holland” (SXSW 2025), directed by Mimi Cave and starring Nicole Kidman, Gael García Bernal and Matthew Macfadyen. This gripping mystery follows a woman whose idyllic life in Holland, Michigan is shattered by a dark and unexpected discovery.
On Sunday, the festival closed with “The Assessment”, fresh from its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Fleur Fortuné, the film stars Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander and Himesh Patel in a chilling, near-future tale where parenthood is a privilege—and a couple’s seven-day test to prove their worth spirals into psychological horror.

Since its inception in 2005, OFF has been dedicated to showcasing over 100 films annually, chosen from nearly 1000 entries worldwide. The festival presents regional and world premieres and advanced screenings of widely distributed movies. Special attention is given to Nebraska-made films, underscoring the festival’s commitment to local talent.
The OFF continues to foster education in the cinematic arts through panels, lectures, and workshops led by industry veterans, solidifying its reputation as a beacon of filmmaking excellence in the Central United States.
