Inclusive Communities Announces Humanitarian Brunch Award Winners

Inclusive Communities (www.inclusive-communities.org) is proud to announce this year’s award winners, who will be honored at the Humanitarian Brunch, which will be on April 7 with a Hosted Brunch Happy Hour between noon and 1 p.m., followed by Brunch and Program. The honoraries are as follows:

  • Humanitarian of the Year Award Winner was Marta Nieves. Marta is a long-time community activist who works to promote social justice issues. As former Chair of the Democratic Latinx Caucus, Marta worked to bring together people in the Latino community, helping them recognize commonalities and work together toward equality and justice. Marta worked for Girl Scouts and Girls Inc., and served many non-profits as a volunteer and consultant.
  • Otto Swanson Partner of the Year Winner was The Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center. The Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC) at the University of Nebraska Omaha is a one-of-a-kind place designed to facilitate collaboration among nonprofits, community groups, and UNO. Inclusive Communities is proud to be housed in the CEC. This partnership has led to countless opportunities for partnership with other organizations and broadened reach.
  • Volunteer of the Year Award Winner was Emily Schirmbeck. Emily has shown incredible commitment and dedication to Inclusive Communities by volunteering for over 10 IncluCIty camps. Emily is a CNA who spends four days three times a year as the Medical Contact, tending to any injuries, ensuring all medications are distributed properly, and often serving as a counselor.
