Midwest Security Laminations (MSL) provides security film for glass as well as decorative tinting films and energy efficient films.  The company was started two years ago by Joe Sevening, who also owns and operates Sevenings Landscaping, Inc.
What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours? – I think it’s the customer service.  You will always have the owner/operator on site when you do a project with us.  Also, you are going to have the brand, 3M, which is who we partner with for our films.  3M leads the way in glass films and always offers a cutting edge product.  The energy efficient films we offer through them can cut 35 to 40 percent of your summer cooling costs and 15 to 20 percent of winter heating costs.

What do you like about doing business in the Omaha area?  –  Omaha is a friendly community, kind of a big town little town.  Everyone seems to know each other and we have developed a lot of loyal customers through our 20 years in the landscaping business, which has helped us to grow with MSL.  We have a family that we have raised here and our businesses support 20 other families who reside in Omaha and we think this is a great community to raise a family.

What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with? – We are part of Greater Omaha Chamber and BILO (Buy it Local Omaha).

Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement? – To try to help the community lower their carbon footprint with energy efficient films while giving them peace of mind with our security laminate films.

What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years? – Omaha is such an untapped city for energy efficient and security film, but they are starting to realize the benefits of them.  Cities such as Kansas City and Chicago have embraced this technology for a while, but Omaha is just starting to come around.

What do you see happening with the business in the next five years? – People are going to continue to try to save money through energy efficiency.  The energy costs of a home or office building accounts for about fifty percent of the operating budget, so this is a huge area where you can see savings.

What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced? – Branding and trying to get the word out on the products.  It’s so new to the market that a lot of people don’t know what window film is and the benefits.

What has been your most important achievement as a business? – Giving back to the community and lowering our carbon footprint as well as helping our clients lower theirs.

What was the biggest turning point in your business? – We have been in business for 20 years with Sevenings and were seeing the request for security films, which led us to the turning point of starting MSL.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that most people don’t know? – Our business is more like a family.  We are very hands on, I am involved in every projects and most of our employees have been with us for years, some of them as far back as 20 years
