photo-Firepit-Techo-carson-stoneWhat do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours? – We are a single-source provider, which means all products are bought direct from our select manufacturers and stone quarries. We are the only company within a 200-mile radius with stone fabricating equipment that has the capabilities for cutting stones the size of a full size car.  Along with our stone products, we are unique as we also offer a wide variety of fire bowls, certified custom burners, and tiki torches. In addition to our variety of products sourced from foreign and domestic sources, creating lasting relationships with our clients and offering our expertise when needed is at the forefront of our mission and we pride ourselves on our knowledgeable staff and superior customer service.

How long have you been in Omaha? – Scott Carson was born and raised in Omaha and was self-employed in the lawn, landscape and hardscape industry by the age of 16 years old. He has since been a pioneer in the landscaping industry for over 20 years, holding many prestigious awards and accolades. Scott sold the landscape division Carson Enterprises in 2013 to solely focus on providing quality products proven for their craftsmanship, beauty and trendsetting looks that last. He now focuses his time on educating contractors on the stone products, proper installation techniques and industry knowledge and trends.

photo-natural-hardscape-carson-stoneWhat do you like about doing business in Omaha? – What we particularly like about doing business in Omaha is there is no native stone to Nebraska that can be used in a landscape other than aggregates for compaction. This means that all stones must be brought in from other states so there is an openness and willingness to try new products.

What kind of industry or community organizations are you involved with? – We are members of the Stone Fabricator Alliance, Marble Institute of America, Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI), National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA), and International Stone Fabricators.

What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years? – Scott sold the landscape division Carson Enterprises to focus solely on building the stone business 2013. The industry trends are currently geared towards the manipulation of stone products. More and more customers want custom stone products in their landscapes, whether it’s natural stone caps, handcrafted stone water features and bubblers outside the norm, fire features including stone fire bowls and burners, or nature stone counter tops, including granite.

What do you see happening with the business in the next five years? – We plan to grow into a multi-location business and to expand our fabrication services. We are also working towards creating our own proprietary natural stone paving line.

What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced? – Getting the word out that Scott Carson no longer owns or is affiliated with the landscape company Carson Enterprises. He sold Carson Enterprises in 2013 to solely focus on the stone distribution business, Carson Stone & Supply. The main the reason why Carson Enterprises was sold was due to the conflict of being a landscape product supplier and installer. Scott chose to focus himself and his business solely on servicing landscape companies/contractors and their project needs.

What has been your most important achievement as a business? – Transitioning from a landscape installation company to a wholesale distribution model while remaining a prominent name in the same industry. Also through extensive research and understanding of products we have been able to calculate maximum yieldage, making natural stone a cost efficient product, next to concrete products.

What is one goal for your business that you have yet to accomplish? – To create our own signature look and line of products that will still be around for decades to come.
