Ryan Henkel had the opportunity to grow up in the business world as his father was the owner of United Enterprises and Mail Marketing, among other businesses.  Ryan worked in the businesses during his childhood, learning the craft from his father, and eventually purchased the businesses from him 2 ½ years ago.  Mail Marketing is a relationship marketing partner that specializes in the production of 1:1 marketing, direct mail, printing, bindery, fulfillment, graphic design, customer loyalty programs, and landing page web development integration.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – No question transitioning into an owner, and having 30 + other employees and their families counting on you to do your job well.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?  – Purchasing the company from my father and staying ahead of the curve with our technology and marketing.

Tell us a little about your family. –  I have a beautiful and supportive wife of nine years, and two fun and energetic boys, ages 7 and 4.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?  – My wife and I lost our baby girl to God last year, and it made me realize that life is too short, and you must cherish every moment that you have with your family and friends.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Relaxing, and enjoy time with my family and friends.  Watching football and playing a little golf usually makes a nice day.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I brew beer with friends as often as we are able to get together and do so.

What are you the most proud of? – My family!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Live in the moment, but plan for the future.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – Have my company flourish and grow continually for years, even after I’m gone.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Pause or slow down time so that I can live every day to its fullest extent.

What are your plans for retirement?  – That’s a really long time out, so I just hope I’m able to retire.  If I am fortunate enough to retire though, I would love to travel and spend time with my children and their children.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I try to utilize all of the few talents that I do have on a daily basis, while always striving to acquire more.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Being a scratch golfer.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The last good book I read was Good to Great.

What is your favorite movie? – The Hangover

What is your favorite TV show? – The Office – (Steve Carell you will be missed!)

What is your favorite local restaurant? – That’s tough as there are so many great local restaurants in Omaha, but to narrow it down I would say Dario’s or Blue Sushi.
