Michaela Williams had the unique experience of watching Care Consultants for the Aging develop from the ground up.  Her grandmother had dementia with combative behaviors and because of her healthcare needs, her mother Virginia Williams and her friend Rose Ann Opperman started the business.  Care Consultants for the Aging(CCA) is a home care registry.  They screen and schedule caregivers who work directly for families.  In addition, they produce the ElderCare Resource Handbook.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
Seeing people suffer and in need of help.  I love helping others and providing a valuable service, but it can weigh heavily on your heart.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
The satisfaction of knowing that the work I do has helped literally thousands of people is by far the most gratifying achievement I have had.

Tell me a little about your family.
I am the middle child of 5.  My mother passed away several years ago, and my father is living in an independent living community. We all check in on him regularly.  Out of all of my siblings, I am the only one who has been directly involved with CCA, but they have always been a huge support system for me.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
The decision to continue CCA after my mother died.  Grieving the loss of my mother and making a life decision of that magnitude was intense.  I did not make the decision lightly.  In the end, the ability to continue the legacy my mother started has been extremely gratifying in so many ways.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling and taking long walks.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I was CCA’s very first caregiver.

What are you the most proud of?
Recently it has been designing a new logo.  It was truly a team effort and I am extremely proud of the final result.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Never accept “no” from someone who doesn’t have the authority to say “yes”.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
To maintain good health throughout life.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
I would like to fly!

What are your plans after retirement?
Enjoying life, traveling, volunteering and spending time with the people I love.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I enjoy making pottery and giving bad pottery gifts to family and friends.  It would get messy if I tried this at work.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I could sing.
