Elk Ridge Village Active Retirement Community, located ¾ mile north of 192nd and Dodge Streets in Elkhorn, offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Special Memory Care.  Kalli Brown is the Director of Marketing at Elk Ridge Village Assisted Living.

How did you get started in the business? – A few years ago I got into doing marketing for pharmaceutical companies.  From there I learned that while I really liked working in the health care business, I wanted to work directly with people.  I decided working in assisted living would give me the opportunity to work directly with those whom I would be helping.

Tell me a little about your family. – I have one sister who lives in Kansas with her husband and five kids, and my mom and stepdad live in Lincoln.  I am engaged and our wedding is right around the corner; we plan on having a family of our own soon!

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – My favorite thing to do on my day off is to spend time with my fiancée. We like to bike, spend time outside, go to the zoo or just relax around our house.  You might also catch me shopping and grabbing lunch with some friends on a day off too.

What are you the most proud of? – I’m very proud of the place I am in life right now.  I feel like the last five years have helped shape me for the job I have now and also where I am personally.  Things have fallen into place and I couldn’t be happier.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I love to travel but I don’t like all the time it takes to get places, so I’d want to be able to teleport myself to any destination.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love music and going to concerts, mostly rock music.  Omaha has a great local music scene and I like to get out and support the bands too.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – A college professor of mine once said that you should spend your 20’s learning who you are and what you want to do professionally and not to get married until you’re at least 30.  I thought it was good advice, but not everyone will agree with that.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Happy.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I would love to be able to sit down at the piano and play music by ear.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Anything by Stephen King.  I own nearly all of his books.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – There is a great Indian restaurant in downtown Omaha called Flavors that I like to eat at when I can.

What is your favorite movie? – My all-time favorite movie is 16 Candles. I’m clearly a child of the 80’s.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Anyone who knows me well will know the answer to this:  Marilyn Monroe.  I’ve always been intrigued by her and I’ll bet she has some great stories to tell.
