How did you get started in the business? – I started in the telecommunications business in the early 90’s as a field technician for a small wireless start up in the Carolinas known as “Dial Call Communications”. That company was quickly acquired by Nextel. Since that time, my journey has continued with companies such as Bellsouth Mobility DCS, Nortel Dasa, Cingular Wireless, AT&T Wireless, and eventually leading me to Cox Communications.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Venturing into the international market as a consultant in Europe. That was a very important and key opportunity in my career which has continued to pay dividends to this day. While living and working in a foreign land with a limited grasp of the language, I came to appreciate the importance of clear communication and true collaboration. That lesson has stayed with me ever since and has helped me grow professionally.

Tell us a little about your family. – My family is my center of gravity. I have had the fortune of being married to the same beautiful and wonderful wife for 27 years. We have 3 children; 2 beautiful young ladies who are actively pursuing their life dreams, and a son who is just beginning his journey as a senior in high school.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – As a young man I enlisted in the United States Navy. That decision set my life on a path filled with many values including hard work, self-reliance, community, and acceptance. It taught me the importance of being part of something greater than yourself. In retrospect, this was likely the most impactful decision I have ever made.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – Mister Magic by Grover Washington, Jr.  It’s instrumental but a masterpiece.

What are you the most proud of? – I am most proud of my children. They each have unique gifts, and it is exciting to watch them grow into their individual selves as valued cogs in the wheel of society.
