Empower Home Care (www.empowerhomecare.com) is a non-profit organization that provides personalized companion care and non-medical assistance wherever you call home.  Carly Snider is the Home Care Manager at Empower Home Care.

Tell us a little about your business. – We are the new piece of the Midwest Geriatrics, Inc. healthcare family that has been providing care in the Omaha community for more than 100 years. Our primary focus is person-centered care while valuing the importance of compassion, dignity, and respect for our clients and their families throughout all stages of life. Our mission is to “empower the individuals we serve to live life to the fullest.”

How did you get started in the business? – I have been blessed to be part of the healthcare field for many years. My first real healthcare job was in college when I worked at a group home in Nevada, Iowa. From a young age I enjoyed helping others and being around seniors. My passion for helping others has continued to grow over the years through becoming a CNA, achieving my LPN, being an Executive Director of an Adult Day Care, a Memory Care Manager at an Assisted Living, and now to my current position at Empower.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – My most important achievement continues to be able to help others and having the privilege to work with so many great individuals and their families.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have been married for 11 years to my wonderful husband Bob. We have a beautiful daughter named Kherington that is full of life, and two Weimaraners named Abby and Haley.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Moving to Omaha. It has provided a variety of great job opportunities, experiences, and has brought some amazing people into my life.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Honestly it depends on the day. It might be choosing to be lazy by lounging around the house and binge watching TV shows, going to my daughter’s activities, hanging out with family and friends, going somewhere on a whim, or sleeping in.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Depends on who you ask! I was named after Carly Simon, grew up on a farm in a very small town in Iowa, I share a birthday with George Washington, I’m not a fan of chocolate cake, and I do not like lettuce. Sorry, guess that is more than one.

What are you the most proud of? – My family, my education, my experiences, and having the opportunity to enjoy doing what I love.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I’m crafty.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Empower Home Care that is part of the Midwest Geriatrics, Inc. non-profit family that I get the privilege to work for and help fulfill their mission. I also am passionate about Donate Life Nebraska and the work they do; my father was an organ donor and saved multiple lives.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – My new found favorite is Mantra in Benson.
