United Rent-All is Omaha’s premier source for party and event rentals. Bart Brown is the Vice President of United Rent-All.

Tell us a little about your business. – United Rent-All is a family owned business that has been in the same location since 1950. We rent just about everything you might need for any type of special event or wedding.

How did you get started in the business? – My father bought the business from the original owner around 1970 and I basically grew up in it. I started by washing dishes as a young teenager and have been involved in just about every aspect of the business ever since.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The biggest challenge we have faced is adapting our business to the changing rental industry. When my father started, he primarily rented tools and homeowner needs. People simply didn’t rent things for parties. As the market for tool rental has slowed we have evolved into primarily a special event rental service. What started as a way to keep busy during the slow winter months has become a year round thriving business.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – We take pride in making every event we work on special and work with others in the special event industry to make our clients’ dreams come true.

Tell us a little about your family. – As a family-run business, my father, mother and I have enjoyed a great relationship in growing the business. Recently my brother joined the team and is adding many new ideas, so it’s a new and exciting time for us.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – It’s been realizing that there is more to life than work and building a life outside of work that includes time spent with family.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – In my spare time, I enjoy reading and cooking. I especially love finding and trying new recipes.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I can make just about anything out of balloons.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Makes No Sense at All” by Bob Mould.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I can guess the correct amount of pasta to make for any given meal.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Marine Biologist.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I generally favor local charities that focus on helping those who need help with a second chance.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera.

What is your favorite movie? – The Graduate.

What is your favorite TV show? – I don’t watch much television anymore, but I do enjoy watching football this time of year.
