When Andrew Embury met Phil Lieber, the two instantly hit it off and began making plans to work together to build a different kind of company built around solving problems that nag business owners regarding technology.  They eventually opened P&L Technology, a managed IT service company that serves small and mid-sized businesses in the Midwest.  They have two products: one aimed at providing a complete IT solution for small businesses with no IT staff and another product aimed at supplementing the IT department at mid-size companies.

Tell us a little about your family.
I have been happily married to my wife, Mandy, for 8 years.  We have a daughter, Kodie, who is a senior at Elkhorn South High School.  Kodie is very active on the cheerleading squad at ESHS and is lining up college visits for this fall.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
Entering my freshman year of college in 1994 right as the Internet boom was starting. I was able to experience the power of the Internet in its infancy, saw how this technology would permeate our lives, and knew I wanted to be a part of it professionally. In the technology field I found the passion that has caused the proverbial, “do what you love and you will never work a day in your life” to come true for me.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Have a day with no planned agenda where I can read, spend time with my wife, go out to a nice dinner, and maybe see a concert.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I’m a huge fan of indie music.  My wife and I love to go to concerts around town, especially at The Slowdown.

What are you the most proud of?
Making the transition from being an employee with strong technology skills to being able to lead a growing business.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
To not make a place in your life for negativity or negative people.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
Get to the point where I can unplug from our business and it just continues to run like a well-oiled machine.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Ability to function with little or no sleep.

What are your plans after retirement?
To live a low maintenance lifestyle that affords the ability to easily travel for long stretches in foreign countries.  I hope to fill up that passport many times over and share those experiences with my wife.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I’m kind of a jack-of-all-trades, but don’t have any really amazing talents outside of the technology area.

Which talent would you most like to have?
The ability to play a musical instrument or speak a foreign language.  I’ve tried both, and I have zero ability in those areas.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

What is your favorite TV show?
Right now I am really enjoying Mad Men

What is your favorite local restaurant?
The Boiler Room

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Ronald Reagan
