Open Door Mission Serves a Record Number of Needy Families on Thanksgiving

On Saturday, November 7, thousands of near homeless families who are struggling day-to-day to make ends meet stood in line for hours and registered to receive a Turkey ‘N’ Fixin’s box. Through Open Door Mission’s Drumstick on Wheels Program, families were empowered to prepare a hot, nutritious turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day in their own homes.

Registration was held at Open Door Mission’s Garland Thompson Men’s Center located at 2705 N. 20th St. East. Open Door Mission distributed over 5,000 Turkey ‘N’ Fixin’s boxes. Despite the warm weather, the need is still growing. Open Door Mission is requesting the continued help of the community to provide hope for the hungry during the holiday season.

“No one should go hungry in our community, especially during the holidays,” says Candace Gregory, President/CEO. “It is Open Door Mission’s desire to empower families and individuals to remain in their own homes and prevent homelessness.”

Open Door Mission is still in need of donations and volunteers. For more information on how you can help, please visit www.opendoormission.org.
