United Way of the Midlands will hold its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.  The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Omaha Hilton, 1001 Cass Street in Omaha.

Michael Yanney and Dr. Gail Walling Yanney will be recognized as United Way’s “Citizens of the Year.” Among their many contributions in the metro area, the Yanneys founded “Partnership for Our Kids” which focuses mentoring and financial resources on school children in underserved Omaha neighborhoods.

Michael Yanney is Chairman Emeritus of The Burlington Capital Group LLC. His board service includes Building Bright Futures, Avenue Scholars Foundation and Heritage Services. Dr. Gail Walling Yanney is an anesthesiologist, and currently serves on the boards or councils of Building Bright Futures, Lauritzen Botanical Gardens and Nebraskans for Research.  Together, they are leading the $500 million capital campaign for the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
