Omaha Running Club Celebrates Fourth Year of Heartland Marathon

Omaha Running Club’s (omaharun.org) signature running event, the Heartland Marathon, was held on Sunday, September 23. The event included a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and marathon relay. All races began at 7 a.m. at the Riverfront Landing in downtown Omaha at 345 Riverfront Dr. An event expo featuring a vendor fair, spaghetti dinner, and keynote address took place the day before the marathon at the Hilton Omaha.

Event proceeds went towards supporting the Omaha Running Club’s work throughout the year, including hosting free fun runs, maintaining the city’s most comprehensive running calendar, partnering with the Keep Omaha Beautiful trail cleanup program, and providing finish line and race timing services for other event organizers.

Omaha Running Club president and Heartland race director, Tom Whitaker, said, “We are very fortunate to have such an active club and supportive community. Runner’s World Magazine recently ranked Omaha ninth on its list of the 50 best running cities in the United States. Events like the Heartland Marathon are what make Omaha so unique.”

The Heartland Marathon is locally managed by the Omaha Running Club, which helps support the Omaha running community. The Club has more than 500 members and has supported the Omaha running and walking community since the 70s. The Omaha Running Club is a member of the Road Runners Club of America.
