Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital has announced plans to build its Omaha campus on a recently purchased 20.8-acre parcel just west of Village Pointe Shopping Center near 175th Plaza and Burke streets. The land, purchased from the University of Nebraska Physicians Groups, is the first step in Madonna’s long-term project to build a 110-bed rehabilitation hospital campus in Omaha. The planned $93 million, 250,000-square-foot hospital will offer a full continuum of inpatient rehabilitation care, as well as a pediatric rehabilitation unit.  Madonna asked the Omaha City Council to revise a development agreement on the land, which was subsequently approved by the Council, and construction will begin this spring and should be completed in late 2015.  According to Madonna officials, the construction will bring in $104 million and create 450 new jobs, 250 of them in construction. Ultimately, the Omaha campus will employ 850 people with cumulative wages of $22 million. The Omaha campus will serve patients being discharged from Omaha trauma and medical centers.

The rehabilitation and research hospital specializes in traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke and neurological diseases, long-term pulmonary conditions and pediatric rehabilitation. Over the past three years, the Lincoln hospital has served patients from 45 states. For more information about Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, please visit www.madonna.org.
