Celebrating Mother’s Day in Lincoln, NE – 2018

Sunday, May 13th—Mother’s Day—the one day of the year dedicated to celebrating the moms in our lives. Only one day? That can’t be right. While the United States traditionally recognizes the second Sunday of May for this purpose, women across the country will tell you that every day is Mother’s Day when you are, in fact, a mother. Moms are wired to put the needs and wants of their children ahead of their own, which isn’t a huge sacrifice for most moms considering their needs and wants tend to align with their children’s anyway. Flowers and phone calls make for thoughtful gestures, but the real reward of being a mother is woven into the daily routines and constant considerations that come with raising a family—but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important to do something special for our moms every now and then to remind them how much we appreciate all they do.

Mothers deserve the moon and the stars, but since those things may be a little too far out of reach for most of us, it poses the question… what gift do we get for the woman who gave us the gift of life? That’s a tricky one, but Michelle Kaiser with The Omaha Bakery has a few ideas.

As Michelle reflected on loved ones in her life who she’s lost in recent years, she stressed that there is truly no greater gift than quality time. She added, “You never know what tomorrow will bring, so spend as much time as you can with the people you love as often as you can. My fondest memories from my childhood are of family picnics at the park.” With that in mind, Michelle suggested celebrating Mother’s Day by picking up a delicious, 8-inch cake from The Omaha Bakery and taking it to the park to enjoy with your family. Make sure to call three business days in advance to place your order!

The Omaha Bakery has a wide variety of cakes and treats to choose from, but nothing beats their Food Network featured cheesecake. The Lemon Bar Cheesecake is an especially perfect selection for this time of year. If graham cracker crust with creamy lemon cheesecake batter infused with lemon curds topped with lemon white chocolate mousse and lemon bar pieces sounds good to you… call over to The Omaha Bakery right now to place your order! This option isn’t even on the menu. Michelle whipped up this delicacy for her family ‘s Easter gathering and now she’s sharing the lemon love.

The Omaha Bakery will also be running a special on Mother’s Day. Buy one slice of cake for yourself and get one slice for your mom absolutely free! The Omaha Bakery is located at 608 S. 72nd Street and open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Don’t forget to check out the brunch menu while you’re there too—The Omaha Bakery bakes fresh quiches every day, served with a breakfast roll and fresh fruit. Give your mom a full belly and a full heart this Mother’s Day with a little help from The Omaha Bakery.

Soaring Wings Vineyard & Brewing

Picnics are officially the theme of this Mother’s Day, as Jim Shaw with Soaring Wings Vineyard & Brewing encourages families to pack some food and come enjoy an afternoon of live music and delicious beverages at their venue (weather permitting of course, fingers crossed!).

“Soaring Wings currently features 22 wines ranging from dry to sweet. Traditionally, 50% of the grapes come from our very own vineyard, while the remaining 50% come from Eastern Nebraska. In our tasting room, you may purchase a flight of 5 of our wines or beers for $6 and receive a souvenir wine glass! In addition, beginning in August of 2011, Soaring Wings joined the ranks of local area craft brewers. We’ve featured a variety of brews throughout the years, and have even experimented a bit, introducing patrons to greats such as the Grape Schism! Although the beer menu changes with season and supply, the quality of each fresh brew introduced is undeniable. There’s always something on tap to satisfy any beer drinker’s taste! Our craft beers are only available for purchase on-site, so don’t miss out! Treat yourself to a logo glass, a pint, pitcher, or one of our fancy refillable growlers. Along with wine and beer, we also offer non-alcoholic beverages and an assortment of a la carte food items, so it’s guaranteed to be a good time for the whole family. Guests are welcome to pack a picnic and, if they’re lucky, they’ll get to take in one of Nebraska’s famous sunsets like they’ve never seen before.”

Jim also took the opportunity to highlight the venue’s live music offerings every Friday night April-October and Sunday afternoon all year long, as well as at the acclaimed Wine, Beer, Blues and Balloon Festival on June 2nd.  There will be a special performance on Mother’s Day, as Soaring Wings will feature Tracy Skretta from 2 – 5 p.m., who will be covering music from the good ol’ days. Guests can expect to hear a range of tunes from Skretta—anything from “in your face” rock to soothing acoustic rock to sensual blues and jazzy tunes.

Whether you’re treating your mom to a delicious bite or a flavorful sip this Mother’s Day, remember that the most special gift you can give your mom is your time. She may deserve the moon and the stars, but you’re her whole world.
