Father’s Day is Sunday, June 17th and should serve as a reminder to all of us just how much our dads have done for us over the years.  Dad was probably there for you as you learned to ride a bike, he attended your little league games and he worked hard to make sure you had everything you needed growing up.  Father’s Day provides a great opportunity to show him just how much he has had an impact on your life.  Unfortunately, many dads can be difficult to buy for as they usually will tell you they don’t need anything.  However, we’ve come up with some ideas that should make their day extra special!

Hobby Classes/Materials

If your dad is like most, he probably has a hobby and this should give you some excellent gift ideas!  According to Gerry Phelan of Midwest Woodworkers, “If your dad works with his hands, ask him questions about his skills and projects and the tools he uses.  This will help you connect with Dad on his craftsmanship and his tools and will give you some excellent ways to recognize him on Father’s Day.  If you are looking for a gift for his shop, pay attention when you are asking him questions to see if there is something he wishes he has.  You can also make a project for him.  Particularly if he passed on his skills to you, he will be pleased and honored to have you put the time and effort into making something special for him.  Are there grandchildren?  Help them make a simple project and start them on the path of learning a craft.  It doesn’t have to be complicated – a key holder, a bird house, a tie rack, a game.  There are numerous books available with suitable projects.  Even better, recognize Dad by making something with him.  Your time and attention is the best gift of all.  You will both benefit from having him pass along his knowledge and you can both enjoy some quality time together.  You can make a project and memories at the same time.”

If your dad is more into hunting or target shooting, a new gun may be the perfect gift for him.  If you’re not knowledgeable about guns or about the types of guns your father uses, you should make sure you’re going to a gun shop that has great customer service and will be able to ask questions to find the perfect gift.  You might also want to consider bringing Dad in with you as you choose a gun for his gift.  It might ruin the surprise a little, but at least he will be able to pick out something he really wants.

College World Series Tickets

If your dad is a sports fan, getting him tickets for the College World Series to be held in mid-June is the perfect gift!  According to Chad Carr of Ticket Express, “Getting your dad tickets to this event is great because not only do you have the gift, but you also have the day planned for him.  The College World Series is perfect for many men because they grew up with the game, either playing with their friends or their own fathers, and many of them love the rich history and tradition of the College World Series in Omaha, so it’s a natural connection.”

A Meal Out

Although Dad might be a master on the grill, everyone needs a night off and he’d probably love to be treated to an amazing burger that he DIDN’T have to cook with his own hands!  You might even consider introducing him to a burger he’s never tried before, such as one of the exotic burgers offered at Fuddruckers.  Though he might have grilled hundreds of hamburgers and hot dogs in his day, he’s probably never tried an ostrich or boar burger and this Father’s Day is the perfect time to fix that!

Edible Bouquet

Although you might not think’ bouquet’ when you think of Dad, you just need to alter your definition a little to have the perfect gift!  An Edible Arrangements bouquet is not flowers, but actually a delicious assortment of fruit.  For Father’s Day,
Edible Arrangements is featuring the ‘Hole in One’ bouquet, which has delicious fruit and a golf ball keepsake, perfect for that dad who loves yummy food and golfing!

Father’s Day is quickly approaching.  Don’t miss this opportunity to show Dad how much he truly means to you!
